Our Commitment to Accuracy
At IMBrief, we strive for accuracy with every piece we publish. When we make mistakes, and we're human, so we occasionally do, we correct them promptly and transparently.
This policy explains how we handle corrections, clarifications, and updates to ensure you can trust what you read.
Types of Corrections
Minor Corrections
What: Spelling mistakes, grammar errors, broken links, or minor factual errors that don't affect the substance of the article.
How we handle them: We correct these silently to improve readability. No notation required.
Examples:
- Typos or grammatical errors
- Incorrect date formatting
- Broken hyperlinks
- Minor number transpositions that don't change meaning
Substantive Corrections
What: Factual errors that could affect a reader's understanding or decision-making.
How we handle them:
- We correct the error in the article
- Add an update note at the bottom explaining what was changed
- We include the correction date
- If the correction is significant, we will record it in our next newsletter
Examples:
- Incorrect program prices or requirements
- Wrong processing timeframes
- Misattributed quotes or sources
- Errors in legal or regulatory information
Clarifications
What: When our original text was technically correct but unclear or potentially misleading.
How we handle them:
- Add clarifying information to the article
- Note the clarification at the bottom
- Preserve the original meaning while improving clarity
Examples:
- Ambiguous phrasing that caused confusion
- Missing context that changes the interpretation
- Industry terms that needed better explanation
Updates
What: New information that changes the story but doesn't make the original reporting incorrect.
How we handle them:
- Add the new information to the article
- Clearly mark it as an update with the date
- Preserve the original reporting for transparency
Examples:
- Program changes announced after publication
- New government policies affecting the previous analysis
- Evolving situations we're tracking
How to Report an Error
If you spot an error, we want to know about it.
Email: corrections@imbrief.com
Please include:
- The article URL
- The specific error you've identified
- Any supporting documentation
- Your contact information (optional, but helpful if we need clarification)
Alternative: You can also email editor@imbrief.com or use any of our contact methods.
Our Process
- Acknowledgment - We'll confirm receipt within 2 business days
- Investigation - We'll verify the error against our sources and notes
- Decision - We'll determine if and how to correct
- Implementation - We'll make the correction according to this policy
- Response - We'll notify you of the outcome (if you provided contact details)
Transparency Standards
For substantive corrections:
- The correction note appears at the article's end
- We use clear language: "Correction [Date]: [What was corrected]"
- The correction remains permanently visible
- Significant corrections are noted in our newsletter
Format example:
Correction (26 June 2025): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the minimum investment for Program X as $200,000. The correct amount is $250,000. We regret the error.
What We Don't Correct
We generally don't change:
- Opinion statements that remain the author's view
- Predictions that didn't materialise (though we may add updates)
- Analysis based on information available at publication
- Style preferences or minor word choices
Preventing Errors
While corrections are important, prevention is better:
- We fact-check against primary sources
- We verify figures and requirements with official documents
- We distinguish between facts and analysis
- We update our style guide based on repeated errors
Major Errors
In the rare case of a major error that fundamentally undermines an article:
- We'll add a prominent correction at the top of the article
- We'll issue a correction in our newsletter
- We'll review our editorial processes to prevent recurrence
